The Menu UF

The Menu UF’s home page, with the headline “Not sure what to cook tonight?” next to a bowl of colourful vegetables

No more “what’s for dinner?”.

The website and payments for The Menu UF, a student company with a deck of cards full of simple recipes. I sponsor the project and built the Stripe webshop, the checkout for selling in person with Tap to Pay and the search work that makes the deck easy to find.

Features

01

A webshop on Stripe

The deck is ordered through a Stripe checkout with card, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Payment is secure, and the student company has nothing of its own to maintain.

02

Tap to Pay in person

At markets and fairs the company takes payment on an iPhone with Stripe Tap to Pay. No card reader is needed, and the sales land in the same Stripe account as the webshop.

03

Recipes by QR code

Every card in the deck has a QR code. Scan it and the full recipe opens on your phone, with ingredients and step-by-step instructions.

04

Random dinner

If you can’t choose, draw a card on the site. The recipe page filters by pasta, vegetarian, quick and easy, weekend treats and more.

05

Found on Google

The pages are fast and prerendered, with their own title, description and share image. Recipes carry structured data, so they can show up as recipes in the search results.

06

Easy to keep filling

Recipes and images live in a database, so the team can add new recipes without touching the code.

How it works

  1. 01

    Draw

Draw a card from the deck, or get a random recipe on the site.

  2. 02

    Scan

The QR code on the card opens the recipe on your phone, with no app and no login.

  3. 03

    Cook

Simple recipes with everyday ingredients. Then all that’s left is to enjoy it.

How the site was built

The Menu UF is a student company, and student companies rarely have the time or budget for a developer of their own. I sponsor the project so the team can spend its energy on the deck instead of the tech. The result is a site that sells, takes payment and can be found.

  • The webshop

A fast site with a product page and a Stripe checkout, so the deck can be ordered from a phone.

  • Payment in person

Stripe Tap to Pay turns an ordinary iPhone into a card reader, for selling at markets and UF fairs.

  • The QR recipes

Recipe pages that load straight away when the code is scanned, built for the phone and the kitchen.

  • The search work

Prerendered pages, structured data and share images, so both Google and social feeds understand what the site is about.

FAQ

What is The Menu UF?

A UF company, meaning a company run by upper-secondary students through Ung Företagsamhet (Junior Achievement Sweden), that sells a deck of cards with simple dinner recipes. Every card has a QR code to its recipe.

What is in the deck?

Recipes with everyday ingredients, including pasta, weekday dinners, vegetarian, quick and easy and weekend treats. You draw a card and scan the code to get the recipe.

How do you order the deck?

Through themenu.se. The checkout runs on Stripe, and you can pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Can you buy the deck in person?

Yes. At markets and fairs the team takes payment with Stripe Tap to Pay on an iPhone. You just hold your card or phone against theirs.

Why do you sponsor a student company?

I want to help young entrepreneurs get started. A good website, secure payments and visibility on Google are often what’s missing, and that is my day job.

Can you help my student company too?

Get in touch. I build websites, Stripe payments and search optimisation, and I’m happy to say what fits your company.

Warm, simple and easy to recognise

Rose tones, thick outlines and a classic serif. The site should feel as welcoming as dinner at home.
